Update your ads.txt
Last edited: 2024/03/21
Authorized Digital Sellers, or ads.txt is an IAB Tech Lab initiative that helps ensure that only authorized sellers (such as Prebid Stack) can sell your digital ad inventory. By creating your own ads.txt file, you can have more control over who is allowed to sell ads on your site and prevent counterfeit inventory from being presented to advertisers.
The file must include the following information as outlined by the IAB:
- Domain name of the advertising system or ad exchange
- Publisher account ID
- Type of relationship
- Type of inventory
Why do you need to update the ads.txt file?
To ensure the proper authorization and transparency in the selling of ad inventory, it is essential to update the ads.txt file on a domain after adding a new SSP to the header bidding stack. By updating the ads.txt file, you allow buyers to verify that the new SSP is authorized to sell ad space on your domain, preventing unauthorized sellers from misrepresenting your inventory.
This update is crucial for maximizing revenue potential, maintaining buyer trust, and preventing counterfeit inventory purchases. Regularly updating the ads.txt file ensures that all authorized sellers are listed, enabling buyers to confirm they are purchasing from reliable sources and helping you earn more revenue from your ad inventory.
When do you need to update your ads.txt file?
For your Own bidders:
- When adding a new bidder in Prebid Stack, be sure to declare it in your ads.txt file.
For Yieldbird Bidders:
- For each bidder that has whitelisted (approved) your domain, you will receive a record that needs to be simply copied into your ads.txt file.
What do you need to do to update the Ads.txt file?
For your Own bidders:
- Any demand partner (SSP) must be declared in your ads.txt. Each time you add a new partner they provide the ads.txt records that need to be added. For detailed examples, refer to the ads.txt documentation.
